Character Name: Rabbit Walter
Nicknames: Cottontail, Big Brother, Bucket o'Bolts, Goggles
Gender: Male
Righty or Lefty: Righty!
Age: 117 years old
Height: TALL. 6'2" or so when hunched, a bit more taller when straightened to full height.
Weight: Quite a great deal cause metal, but Rabbit has a slender build with broad shoulders
Eyes: One blue, one green. Both glowing and extra creepy.
Hair: None, he is bald. :( Screw you guys and your hair
Distinguishable marks: Being a robot is obviously the biggest and most distinct trait that Rabbit possesses, but the 'bot has many other noticeable 'robotic features' unlike his siblings who both appear more human in appearance than he does. He has antique vents that his differing faceplates attach to for shooting out the hot steam his boiler creates, to siphon it away from his precious blue matter core and to keep his chassis from overheating too severely. His glowing photoreceptors are two different colors (blue and green), lights that can both brighten and dim, adjusting to the light of the surrounding area. The copper that his body mostly consists of is slowly oxidizing into a lovely greenish blue, swirling rust, the effect rather beautiful even if it's slowly taking over his metal structure. His outfits, all asymmetrical and vertical stripes and red detailing and just plain weird, are nearly as eye-catching as his strange form is, those weird goggles that sit atop his hat somehow tying the whole motif together into quite the visage.
Describe physical traits in one sentence: Rabbit is a creaky, crooked, obviously aged automaton, always hunched with spindly appendages, glowing mismatched optics, and a lopsided smile that always appears to be far too amused with some unknown joke.
Parents:
↳Father, Colonel Peter A. Walter the First. His Pappy, who he saw as both a father and friend for many decades before his eventual death.
↳Mother, Iris Walter, the 'Ma' of the family. Rabbit's relationship with the woman was not anywhere near as close as his deep, loving relationship with his creator, but he still keeps the memory of her near.
Siblings: Rabbit has had many of them. The Spine, The Jon, and HatchWorth are his younger robotic brethren and Peter Walter II & III are the two human siblings his Pappy had. However, the Walter family has expanded since then, generation upon generation, and the family how is filled to the brim with robots that Rabbit lords over as oldest.
Marital Status: Strange, but committed relationship.
Significant Others: The Will of the Abyss/Alyss/ 'Alice'. As strange as the whole arrangement may seem to those on the outside (and even those who have observed it closely from the start), Rabbit and Alyss have long since settled into a very easy, comfortable companionship.
Children: None.
Other Relatives: Many. Going into detail on this section would kill me because wow big family, but Rabbit has a great deal of robot siblings and the many generations of the Walter family that are close to his heart.
Pets:
↳Mocha Road, The 'dog' that he and Alyss adopted, actually a chain Alyss herself created, but the sweet thing is very loyal and protective of his family.
↳Lil' Bunny, The fat orange and white rabbit that Peter and Delilah accidentally popped into existence during one particularly strange experiment, that Rabbit swiped and gave to Alyss to keep since he knew he couldn't handle that responsibility.
↳The Ducklings, Considering his close relationship with the ducks at the nearby pond, when a handful of lost and confused ducklings were so suddenly without a mother, it was only natural that Rabbit scooped them up and snuck them home to keep. They all have ridiculous names and cause a terrible mess that he won't clean up, but the little fluffy things see Rabbit as their giant copper duck mama and trail after him when not locked up safely in the room.
Friends: Rabbit keeps his friends close and few in number. As friendly and boisterous as he is, Rabbit doesn't necessarily form strong bonds with just anyone, like The Jon does. His friendships are far more selective. It takes a great deal for any non-family member to keep Rabbit's attention for more than a few moments, after all.
Despite the fact they bicker and tease through seventy-five percent of their conversations, he will always consider The Spine his best friend.
Enemies: Becile and his kin and cronies. Rabbit, though he does blame himself for that core explosion, will never forget that family's part in the death of two members of his family. If Rabbit hated anyone, it would be him.
Those dicks in the Steam District. Seriously. Fuck 'em.
Relationships: Rabbit has had a great assortment of romantic relationships in the past, more even than The Spine likely, though a great deal of them are kept private and forever unacknowledged. His romances have been quite a handful over the last century, though the after one particularly painful hurt - Honeybee - the 'bot preferred to keep to throwing his sweet affections and attention upon whatever attractive kitchen appliance (or table) he could find. It kept him in control of the relationship - the one who did the dropping instead of being the one who was dropped - and it meant that genuine heartache would be a thing of the past.
Also he just really loves that in a relationship with an inanimate object, he gets to do all of the talking.
But sometimes attraction just throws all caution out the window, which is why despite that mindset, Rabbit is currently in quite the relationship with Alyss.
Ethnicity: Steampunk inspired robot?
Religion: Nada
Beliefs: Imma robot not a person, stop asking these stupid questions.
Superstitions: Rabbit isn't very superstitious after all he has lived through, though he does love to bring up old superstitions and tease others with the possibility of them. 'Oooh don't walk under that ladder~ 2Spooooooooky!!'
Diction/Accent: Rabbit is generally portrayed with a drawling, New Jersey'ish/Early American inspired accent, all cut off 'g's and ain't's and gonna's and other grammatically incorrect phrases. Spoilers: This accent is fake. Completely fake. Rabbit is from San Diego, California. He did not grow up on the East Coast. It tends to drop away completely when he is singing certain songs or gets completely enraged, as infrequently as that happens. Though Rabbit himself would never admit to the accent being fake and to why it is actually used, one theory is that, because Peter Walter used his own voice to record Rabbit's, the 'bot has been using the terrible accent since the Colonel's death so that he doesn't have to hear his long dead creator's voice whenever he speaks.
He also has a permanent stutter written into his programming, which pipes up between his words far too often, especially becoming apparent if he is upset or overheating.
Education: Nothing formal, though his Pappy likely taught him quite a great deal since he was eager to see how advanced his first artificial intelligence was. More spoilers: Not as smart as The Spine.
Degrees: None
Vocation: Performer
Employment History: Performer, War Machine, Former Boy Band Member…
Salary: Rabbit doesn't have so much a salary as an allowance that his Pappy regulates for him. If the man didn't cut him off, they'd lose all that money way quick and have a house full of refrigerators, toasters, and blenders...
Status and Money: This doesn't necessarily apply to Rabbit.
Own or Rent: Own, but the family home technically belongs to Peter Walter. Robots can't own property apparently. TIME TO FIGHT FOR ROBOT EQUALITY.
Bedroom: The room that Rabbit shares with Alyss isn't anywhere as chaotically messy as The Jon's, but it isn't kept as neatly organized and clearly labeled as The Spine's either. As with most things concerning his brothers, Rabbit falls into the in-between. Considering the great deal of time he spends in his bedroom (the only other places he spends nearly as much time at would be the duck pond or his private hiding spots), Rabbit's living space has a certain 'lived-in' feel to it, very comforting and very private.
Alyss and Rabbit share one of the larger rooms in the Victorian-style Walter house - being the oldest son it is obviously the robot's right to take the second-best room in the house - on the second floor, right next to Peter's room.
The room itself never looks quite as nice as depicted in the picture because Rabbit is a slightly messy individual and Alyss doesn't mind his untidiness in the slightest. Which means there is no one to really clean it. Though most of their clothes make it to be neatly hung away in the closet, there will always be at least one or two various pairs of boots and gloves left laying around, a belt here or there, and the woman's collection of stuffed animals all over.
..And really, knowing them, that chandelier probably makes as an impromptu hanger at various points as well.
There is a nice window seat for Alyss to sit in and enjoy the sunshine on days with good weather or simply to listen to Rabbit yap on forever like he does, and Lil' Bunny's cardboard box bed is perched there usually too, the ducklings never too far off curled up there too.
Rabbit's favorite instruments are placed in their prized places throughout the room, kept clean and in excellent repair.
Work Space: Rabbit doesn't necessarily have a work space, but it would similar to his room. Not perfectly kept and organized, but not a disaster. Somewhere in the middle.
Main Mode of Transportation: Walking.
Fears: Rabbit's fears are hidden a great deal down under that copper smile and stuttery laugh of his, but they shape the automaton's character vastly and drive him to make the choices he does.
The most pronounced fear of his, besides the usual fear of seeing those he loves hurt, is an intense fear of change. Rabbit believes without a single shadow of doubt that he was built just the way he was meant to be. His father was a genius, pure and simple, and when he brought Rabbit to life, he only did it because the robot was completely ready for the world. Allowing any part of him to be changed or upgraded (even something so little as a single gear or screw) is a slap to the face of his creator and an insult to their deep, meaningful relationship.
But at the same time, Rabbit can see the way his body is giving out on him, he can see how his brothers move on forward and improve and how the world and society are speeding ahead with them, and the thought of being left behind and forgotten scares him right to his very core. But Rabbit is too stubborn to listen to reason in that his father would want him to be well and whole, so he is stuck in a constant state of uncertainty that he just can't shake.
Even reunited again with Peter after seventy years apart, it is still too difficult to just let go and let himself be fixed.
Rabbit also has a general fear of losing others and getting emotionally hurt. Physical pain ain't so big a deal considering the malfunctions that quake through his body on a regular basis, but the thought of feeling loneliness and hurt deep down into his ticking clockwork is enough to make him shy away from most emotional connections. Better to be alone than to get hurt again like he did, right?
He also can't help but have an occasional fear of being alone outside of his room at night, as if he's afraid of what (or who) will come for him from the shadows. After the incident with the Beciles in the '50's, Rabbit refuses to power down anywhere outside of those few spaces he feels entirely safe within, like his own room or The Spine's. There is also the lingering terrible thought that his core will be stolen again, even after all of these years. The incident in the Steam District only worsened that fear.
Secrets: Though it is generally believed that The Spine is the quiet, secretive one of the group, Rabbit has his own very private thoughts that he keeps locked up behind a big, ol' smile. Most have to deal with his range of emotions or past hurts and fears, but it really isn't anything he'd discuss with anyone besides The Spine. It is just better to either not speak of something or to cover it up with a goofy grin and move on.
IQ: He's smarter than he lets on, but The Spine is obviously the superior in terms of intelligence.
Eating habits: Carefully so his jerky hands don't drop or splatter things everywhere. He doesn't have quite the obsession with eating food that The Jon does, but he doesn't mind indulging every now and then, when in good company.
Food Preferences: Mexican foods, ice cream, kittens.
Sleeping Preferences: In his room (or Pappy's old bed back home), curled up on his side in complete black. Anything less just won't do it for him. He'd rather stay powered on for days than sleep when he doesn't feel safe or comfortable. Stubborn brat.
Currently, with Alyss, Rabbit refuses to allow himself to sleep. The idea of himself glitching or jerking out in his sleep and hurting her is too terrifying a reality to face. It is just much better to lay awake and take cat naps in the downtime when he can.
Book Preferences: Rabbit doesn't read often. Though intelligent enough to absorb books at a fast pace if he felt so inclined to do, he prefers to throw himself headfirst into his own sparking thoughts than the thoughts of others. He'll occasionally flip through books that are accessible to him and read a page here and there, but nothing much else otherwise. Rabbit also vainly believes that his own stories are way better than anyone else's.
Though to be fair, he would be correct.
Music Preferences: His own music. He's a very humble guy. That being said, if he was going to listen to anything else, it would be something very old-fashioned sounding, none of this modern crap, except for that Gangham Style thing, he likes that.
Groups or Alone: Alone. For all his energy and intense love of social activity, Rabbit needs his alone time to brood and think in private or he lashes out and loses his temper more often than normal.
Leader or Follower: Leader, a position he fights The Spine for quite often.
Planned Out or Spontaneous: Somewhere in the middle. While The Spine is all planned out and The Jon completely spontaneous, Rabbit takes the flexible, middle ground, not at all bothered by changing plans.
Journal Entries: None. Keeping a journal is for wussies.
Hobbies/Recreation: Rabbit loves to create music more than anything else in the world, perhaps even moreso than his brothers. It was what Pappy created him for, after all, and he takes that to heart, reminding himself often that his creator never looked quite so happy as when Rabbit was singing and playing for him. He doesn't live with his head in the clouds or try to fit into human society like his brothers. He just happily slides into his own little personal slot that life has planned out for him, sticking strictly to what he has and what he knows.
That being said, since arriving to the city, the 'bot has really begun to look forward to his outings with Alyss, but Rabbit doesn't necessarily have anything else that could be filed under 'hobby' besides being a full time brat.
Relaxation: The one that has been the most staple part of his daily routine these last seventy years has been waking up early to feed the ducks and conversing with his Pappy at the family cemetery. It is by far the place that he felt most at ease in. Rabbit also has always enjoyed the family movie dates the Walters do or simply sitting down to chat with The Spine (without fighting, as infrequently as that happens) or making up stories for The Jon's bedtime. Family is and always will be very important to Rabbit and he does love to spend time with them.
Since arriving to the city, the routine hasn't changed much, except there is no dead Pappy or graveyard any longer. Now Rabbit simply wanders to the duck pond at early hours (usually with a row of cutely quacking ducklings trailing behind him), where he can clear his head and take some much needed alone time before the day really begins.
Excitements: Performing is the one thing that really gets Rabbit's gears going. Being on stage and having a willing audience, it just fills him with an energy that no one can contain or predict. Nothing else will ever get him going like that.
Pet Peeves: Rabbit has many minor irritations, but very rarely any real grudges or pet peeves. One of the few would be The Spine's desire to be human, because it's clearly an insult to their creator and just plain stupid.
Prejudices: Surprisingly for such a moody, vocal 'bot, Rabbit doesn't hold many prejudices. He can see the dividing line between robot and human, and knows precisely where he stands on that black and white spectrum, but it isn't a fact he holds at all bitterly over human's heads. He is a robot and proud of it. He is a man-made creation and he has never tried to be anything more.
Stressors: His own failing body, the malfunctions and glitching he can't control. His brothers (though he loves them so, sometimes they do count as big, giant stressors), the thought of losing his place in an ever-changing world.
Obsessions: Rabbit has a strange fixation on love. Because of the way he came into the world, Rabbit awoke to see his Pappy in that love-craze of building robots for his precious Delilah. And he has carried that same quirky obsession and need of love around with him since the very beginning.
Addictions: Kitchen appliances. Don't ask.
Ambitions: To make his Pappy proud. To continue making music for as long as he's able.
As seen by others (outside of the family): Rabbit is the immature, joker of the group. Though technically the oldest, he fails in his responsibilities in comparison to The Spine and chooses to act like a clown instead, hopping from here to there with a smile on his face and a bad joke on his lips. He's friendly, energetic, and always welcoming, eternally willing to talk a mile a minute to anyone who will listen. He'll throw his heavy arm around a stranger like they are the best of pals and start shooting off puns at an alarming rate until The Spine huffs enough at him to lay off. He also has some serious issues with appliances…
As seen by family: The other robots within the Walter Manor must hold some respect Rabbit and acknowledge his status as the oldest, even if it is only because of how often he declares it. Despite the number of robots running around, Rabbit takes the time to greet each of his new brethren into the world and show 'em the ropes of how life as an automaton of the Walter Family is supposed to go. He has a far closer and intimate relationship with The Jon and The Spine (and a slightly awkward one with HatchWorth), but when not stuck up in his room or out with Pappy, Rabbit can usually be found entertaining the others with jokes or stories about their various performances.
As seen by self: Rabbit is the oldest of the Walter family and takes his responsibilities as such very seriously. He's a reliable shoulder for his brothers to lean on in times of need, but he also has his own special ways of bringing a smile to their faces after the drama has passed. Brooding is for private time, when with others, everyone should be smiling and happy! Rabbit is… old. Despite the fact they are all the same age technically, the copper automaton feels as if his long, weary life has eclipsed both of his brothers, the pain of his past memories only adding to the heaviness in his mind. He's a private man, surprisingly, always eager to smile and joke along with anyone, but at the end of the day, wanting to be alone.
Birth Date: January 22, 1986
Time of birth: Late into the afternoon.
Western Sign: Aquarius.
Traits: Witty, Clever, Inventive, Original, Stubborn, Sarcastic, Rebellious, Aloof. Very independent, any attempt to put a hold on them will just have them squirming harder for freedom. They don't like to be restrained or constricted by others. Despite that aloof, sometimes rude nature, Aquarius cares deeply about others and loves nothing more than to make their friends laugh and be happy. They tend to be rebels just so they can get their own way.
Chines Zodiac Sign: Monkey.
Traits: Monkeys are fun-loving people who love nothing more than to have a good time. They love practical jokes and like to play tricks on colleagues and friends alike. Monkeys tend to stir up trouble simply out of boredom. They have good senses of humor.
Handwriting: Rabbit has long, loopy handwriting that is occasionally interrupted by frantic jerky lines from his malfunctions.
Sexual History: I don't kiss and tell, buddy!
General Health: Despite his chassis being in constant disrepair, Rabbit's overal health is just fine. He has bad knees and is constantly losing control of his limbs, but doing A-Ok! The only real problem is the slow degrade of his mind over time due to incompatible software and the like. Uh oh.
Medical History: Whats dat?
Allergies: Allergic to The Spine.
Chronic Illnesses: None, unless the oxidization on his face counts. That stuff is pretty gross.
Handicaps: His glitching, twisting, unpredictable malfunctions.
Purse/Bag: Rabbit keeps a great deal of things in his giant Mary Poppin's Bag: His megaphone, melodica, Kazookaphone, water bottle, multiple setlists, spare pens and paper, extra guitar picks and strings in case they are needed, a few of The Jon's feathers (in case the golden bot needs a distraction), and a few extra snacks for the humans if they need a boost or to feed animals.
Wallet: He doesn't own one. Ha!
Fridge: Rabbit doesn't have much control over the fridge, but you can bet if he did, they'd be having ice cream parades every single night of the week.
Junk Drawer: Junk. Duh.
Bedroom hiding place: Rabbit's bedroom hiding place is the top shelf in his closet. Usually if he is trying to keep things hidden and out of sight, it is from The Jon or one of the humans, so putting it up high where they won't look usually works well enough in his experience. Since Alyss, there haven't been too many needs to hide stolen appliances in his room, but if he did, that is where he would store them.
Kitchen Cabinets: If it was up to Rabbit, they would be full of beautiful kitchen appliances. But it isn't. Thankfully.
Closets: Rabbit hangs up his clothes (sometimes) pretty neatly inside of his bedroom closet with Alyss' things, but the rest is a random jumble of random. It isn't quite avalanche size yet, but one day someone may open that door and find themselves drowning in boots, gloves, and something that was probably once some sort of food that has been long since forgotten about.
Halloween Costume: Pirate. Always. One of the few times that Rabbit is entirely predictable.
Tricks: Rabbit loves to play prank wars on all of the members of his household, though The Spine is usually his target of choice. Unlike The Jon, Rabbit can sometimes get a little nasty in his trick playing, which ends up in shouting matches with his titanium brother, but things always end up okay in the end. No one has died at least. Not yet.
Talents: Rabbit is insanely talented when it comes to anything involving musical ability, driven to perfect this talent over the years because it was his initial purpose in life. He can compose music, write lyrics, sing in perfect harmony, and play one of the instruments of his choice (melodica or accordion). He is also a master of storytelling, able to throw just about anything together to turn it into a beautifully crafted tale full of heroics, romance, and a hell of a lot of drama.
Politics: Rabbit don't care about that human stuff. Ew!
Flaws: At times, Rabbit keeps too much to himself. There are many a heavy thing weighing down his mechanical mind, some of the things which would be easily relieved just by simply talking about them aloud with one of his brothers or friends, but he refuses. Because he is too damn stubborn and chooses to hold the feelings inside so he doesn't lose them. But after so many years of this behavior, the robot has learned to push down his upset while in the company of others, his smiles generally all genuine and the jokes all real. It isn't until he slips away to be by himself that the heavy gears of his mind start spinning, which has led to many a sleepless night.
Rabbit refuses to accept change. He has sat back and watched the world around him change drastically in the last century, his brothers following along and joining it while he stands on the sidelines, arms crossed and mouth screwed into a childish pout. Because of this and his strong
devotion to his dead creator, Rabbit has allowed his body to deteriorate at an increasingly fast rate.
Rabbit is also a terrible, stubborn, brat, who at times prefers to do nothing else but torture his family.
Strengths: Though there are many strengths one could attribute to Rabbit, the greatest one is his ability to not only recognize exactly who he is and why, but to accept it with open arms. Rabbit is perfectly aware of his status as a robot and he is not afraid to shout it from the rooftops. While The Spine is off trying to blend as seamlessly into human society as possible, Rabbit instead embraces his background and all that his creator has given him.
Rabbit is also a boisterous, bold, friendly 'bot who doesn't have a single ounce of shyness or caution in his chassis. He may seem slightly intimidating at first because of his general loud and spastic nature, but people find the copper robot's charisma quite charming and find themselves drawn to that wide, honest smile and jerky laugh.
Drugs/Alcohol: None.
Passwords: Rabbit is the type of guy that would use his own name in a password - Rabbitis2hot4you or something equally stupid or punny.
Internet stuff: Rabbit isn't allowed online anymore.
Prized Possessions:
↳The goggles he was gifted upon Pappy's death. Rabbit would go to extreme lengths to keep them safe and in his possession. Do not test him.
↳The brooch from Alyss.
↳His instruments
Time and place: 1896. That first year with his Pappy, spending all of their time together as his creator taught him what he could before spending his children off to war.
Special Places: The duck pond and Walter Manor. San Diego Zoo.
Special Memories: Anything with Pappy. His first time performing in front of an audience. Honeybee. First meeting with Alyss.
CODE:
